What is the Kitchen Skills Training Program?

Golden West Apprenticeships Kitchen Skills Training Program aims to provide persons interested in a hospitality trade career the practical skills that will assist them to gain an apprenticeship or traineeship.

The program involves two (2) weeks at TAFE Queensland South West’s Toowoomba campus where the focus will be on providing skill-set training that includes knife skills, hygiene, food preparation skills, safe food handling, service skills and work skills, prior to undertaking a one (1) week work placement in a potential host employers business. The work placement will be undertaken with a local employer seeking to employ an apprentice or trainee.

Harnessing its network of local host employers, Golden West Apprenticeships will work to secure apprenticeships and traineeships for participants who successfully complete the program. While there is no guarantee of an apprenticeship or traineeship at the completion of the program, Golden West Apprenticeships is committed to securing positions for participants who successfully complete the program.

The total commitment is 2 weeks and is targeting those persons who are committed to securing a hospitality trade apprenticeship or traineeship but who may benefit from the skills and experience provided.

Who is eligible?

The program is targeting those persons who are committed to securing a hospitality apprenticeship or traineeship but who may benefit from the skills and experience provided. It is ideal for:

Prospective students must meet the following criteria for eligibility:

  • 2016 school leavers who looking to commence a hospitality apprenticeship or traineeship upon finishing school,
  • school students seeking a school-based hospitality apprenticeship or traineeship, and
  • those with limited or no hospitality experience.

Prospective students must be eligible to undertake a Certificate II or III Hospitality Program under the Queensland Governments’ User Choice Program.

As part of the selection of participants, Golden West Apprenticeships will be looking for those persons who will commit to the program requirement of attending training and work placement.

How much does it cost?

There is no fee to undertake this program. However, participants will need to meet costs of their own transport and incidentals (meals, etc.).

When will the program start?

The Kitchen Skills Training Program is scheduled to commence on Monday 26 September 2016 at the TAFE Queensland South West Toowoomba Campus (Bridge Street).

What is the application process?

Interested persons are asked to apply at www.goldenwest.org.au/job-vacancies by Friday 16 September 2016

All applications will be reviewed with interviews conducted where appropriate.
