Investing in the Future: Millmerran Power Welcomes New Apprentice
Genuity (Millmerran Power Station) is proud to announce its continued commitment to providing valuable apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities for local residents. Partnering with Golden West Apprenticeships since 2005, Millmerran Power has successfully completed over 20 apprentices and trainees in various trades, contributing significantly to the region’s skilled workforce.
This enduring partnership highlights Millmerran Power’s dedication to investing in the local community. Through this initiative, apprentices and trainees gain the necessary skills and qualifications to pursue rewarding careers in the energy sector. The program’s success is further evidenced by the recent achievement of having one of their apprentices, Joshua McKay, win the prestigious TAFE Queensland SkillsTech Instrumentation Apprentice of the Year Award. Joshua was also a finalist in the Queensland Training Awards – Darling Down South West Region – Apprentice of the Year.
“We are deeply committed to supporting the development of our local community,” stated Shane Burge, Plant Manager at Millmerran Power. “Providing apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities allows us to contribute to the growth of the region’s workforce and ensures we have access to a skilled talent pool for the future.”
Millmerran Power currently has two apprentices undergoing training and is thrilled to welcome another, Hoani Young into the program in January 2024. Hoani will be completing a 5-year dual apprenticeship in electrical and instrumentation. This ongoing commitment demonstrates the company’s belief in the importance of nurturing talent and fostering a strong, skilled workforce within the community.
Golden West Apprenticeships praised Millmerran Power’s dedication to supporting local workforce development.
“We value the partnerships we hold with local host employers like Millmerran Power,” said Camille Johnson, Chief Executive Officer at Golden West Apprenticeships. “They are vital to supporting apprenticeship pathways and providing opportunities for local people to build long-term careers in the energy sector.”
